FAQs

Why is my freelance rate higher than a salary divided by 2,000 hours?

Freelancers bill fewer hours than full-time employees work: there is no paid time off, and some hours go to sales, admin and learning. You also cover your own expenses and benefits, so the rate must be higher to reach the same income.

Should I include taxes in my business expenses?

Yes. Add an estimate for income and self-employment taxes so the rate you charge covers what you actually keep after tax.

What if I cannot bill 25 hours every week?

Enter the hours you can realistically bill. Fewer billable hours raise the rate, which keeps your income target on track.
